The device may approach at an angle, need room to reposition, or sweep beyond its footprint. Keep the path usable while checking whether a chair, open refrigerator, bathroom door, or furniture return blocks the turn.
This check is different from measuring a passage. Minimum passage width describes the narrowest clear dimension along a route. A pinch point identifies a local narrowing or obstruction. Clear floor space describes the unobstructed floor area needed to approach or use an element. Clearance is a broader term for space around an object or activity. A turning-radius review may use these ideas, but none alone tells you whether the complete turn works.
In a compact room, the tradeoff is visible. A turning space can take floor area away from a base cabinet, dining chair, or storage unit. Place the maneuver where it protects an actual route, then test what the room loses. Keep permitted overlaps attached to the standard or source that allows them. Never count the same floor area twice if an obstruction or operating movement prevents the user from completing the turn.
Code and local claims need a label
